Spoofing in Text Messages for Fraud

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster gave a speech in November where he described technology available to “spoof” the identity of senders of text messages.  Koster said the technology is often used for bank fraud.

Comment: Caller Identification is often “spoofed” by entities in an attempt to disguise the identity of the sender and avoid liability.  If your number has been spoofed, you should retain records showing all relevant facts regarding the incident in the event of a later government inquiry.
